Balance is a combination of proprioception, reactivity in the nervous system, and strength of the muscular system. Proprioception is the nervous systems ability to know where our body is in space. This can be increased dramatically with intentional exercises. As we increase proprioception we will also develop reactive muscular patterns by training the stabilizers of our limbs to automatically engage to prevent involuntary weight shifting. In contrast we will also train our body to deliberately shift weight forward, back, side to side both on hands and feet. Lastly we will work on increasing strength of the muscles involved in balance including the muscles that surround the ankles, hips (knees as well), wrists, and shoulders.

The July 2021 Immersion focuses on providing you with the necessary techniques and exercises to increase your over all balance and proprioception (ability to feel where your body is in space and in relationship to itself). 

  • Tree Pose, Standing Hand to Foot Variations, Half Moon, Side Plank
  • Handstand, Headstand, Warrior III
  • Exercises and Techniques to Strengthen the stabilizer muscles of the ankles, hips, hands and shoulders. 

Through this yoga immersion focused on increasing balance you will find a new relationship with your body, and ultimately feel better on a daily basis. To increase balance we will do postures that help us develop proprioception. Proprioception is your nervous systems way of knowing where your body is in space and in relationship to itself. It is shown that inversions like handstand in particular can increase proprioception dramatically – but it must be done with the intent to feel and sense where our body is. Handstand will be a large part of this immersion but not for the purpose of attaining the posture, though that may be the result, but rather to increase our proprioceptive ability. Balance is a combination of proprioception, reactivity in the nervous system, and strength of the muscular system. Developing these three is the goal and path of this immersion.

Can’t practice at the live times? NO Problem, you get lifetime, anytime, anywhere access. After the class goes live, you will be able to tune in and watch as much as you would like!

FAQ’S

HOW DOES IT WORK?

When you sign up for the immersion you will gain access to an exclusive members area of theyogimatt.com. When you are logged in your will have access and be able to watch the livestream that day, and any previously aired livestreams from that month.

ARE THERE RECURRING PAYMENTS?

NO. You are paying for access to one month of classes, after that you will be provided a discounted rate should you want to continue practicing regularly. You will NOT be automatically billed, THIS IS A ONE TIME PAYMENT that gives you access to the classes in the respective month that you purchase. 

WHAT ARE THE LIVE TIMES?

While its not mandatory to practice live, the live times are as follows. Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday’s at 12p Eastern Time – this is the same time zone as NYC, so you can do a google search to see what time it is for you. If you are purchasing the immersion AFTER it has gone live, than you may practice on your own time at your convenience.

WHAT IF I CAN'T MAKE THE LIVE TIME?

NO PROBLEM AT ALL! The Immersion consists of yogis worldwide in various time zones. This is why you have LIFETIME and UNLIMITED access. You can practice when it is convenient for you. You will receive emails throughout the week to keep you on track and keep you inspired to practice. There is a facebook group where you will here from other members, be able to ask questions and stay connected. Both the emails from me and the group will keep you committed to your practice, even if you cannot practice live.

All Livestream Immersions are lifetime, anytime accessible after livestream goes live.

 

IS THIS TOO ADVANCED FOR ME?

Matt specializes in teaching ALL Levels yoga practices, providing modifications, and options throughout each class. These immersions are suitable for anyone with as little as 1-3 months yoga practice or more. You do not need to have a regular practice, nor do you need to be flexibly or strong. First time yogis are welcomed so long as you have no major injuries. Each class focuses on a different yoga pose in order to gain a greater understanding of our body within the asana practice.
